Chemical abundance of LINER galaxies – metallicity calibrations based on SDSS-IV MaNGA

چکیده
The ionizing source of Low Ionization Nuclear Emission Regions (LINERs) is uncertain. Because this, an empirical relation to determine the chemical abundances these objects has not been proposed. In this work, for first time, we derived two semi-empirical calibrations based on photoionization models estimate oxygen abundance LINERS as a function $N2$ and $O3N2$ emission-line intensity ratios. These relations were calibrated using estimations obtained by comparing observational ratios 43 LINER galaxies (taken from MaNGA survey) grids built with {\sc Cloudy} code assuming post-Asymptotic Giant Branch (post-AGB) stars different temperatures. We found that LINERs in our sample $\rm 8.48 <~ 12+log(O/H) 8.84$ range, mean value 12+\log(O/H)=8.65$. recommend use index LINERs, since calibration presented much smaller dispersion than index. addition, estimated metallicities are good agreement those extrapolating disk gradients centre showing assumptions suitable LINERs. also between logarithm ionization parameter [OIII]/[OII] ratio.

The Oxygen Abundance Calibrations and N/o Abundance Ratios of ∼ 40,000 Sdss Star-forming Galaxies
Using a large sample of 38,478 star-forming galaxies selected from the Second Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey database (SDSS-DR2), we derive analytical calibrations for oxygen abundances from several metallicity-sensitive emission-line ratios: [N ii]/Hα, [O iii]/[N ii], [N ii]/[O ii], [N ii]/[S ii], [S ii]/Hα, and [O iii]/Hβ. This consistent set of strong-line oxygen abundance cali...
متن کاملStellar Metallicity Gradients in SDSS Galaxies
We infer stellar metallicity and abundance ratio gradients for a sample of red galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)Main galaxy sample. Because this sample does not have multiple spectra at various radii in a single galaxy, we measure these gradients statistically. We separate galaxies into stellar mass bins, stack their spectra in redshift bins, and calculate the measured absorption-...
متن کاملThe Mass–metallicity Relation with the Direct Method on Stacked Spectra of Sdss Galaxies
The relation between galaxy stellar mass and gas-phase metallicity is a sensitive diagnostic of the main processes that drive galaxy evolution, namely cosmological gas inflow, metal production in stars, and gas outflow via galactic winds. We employed the direct method to measure the metallicities of ∼200,000 star-forming galaxies from the SDSS that were stacked in bins of (1) stellar mass and (...
متن کاملMetallicity dependent calibrations of flux based SFR tracers
We present new calibrations of the widely used Hα , [OII] , and UV luminosity vs. star formation rate (SFR) relations. Using our evolutionary synthesis code GALEV we compute the different calibrations for 5 metallicities, from 1/50 solar up to 2.5 solar. We find significant changes in the calibrations for lower metallicities compared to the standard calibrations using solar input physics.
متن کاملOutliers from the Mass–Metallicity Relation I: A Sample of Metal-Rich Dwarf Galaxies from SDSS
We have identified a sample of 41 low-mass high–oxygen abundance outliers from the mass–metallicity relation of star-forming galaxies measured by Tremonti et al. (2004). These galaxies, which have 8.6 < 12 + log(O/H) < 9.3 over a range of −14.4 > MB > −19.1 and 7.4 < log(M⋆/M⊙) < 10, are surprisingly non-pathological. They have typical specific star formation rates, they are fairly isolated and...
